In a previous blog post, we talked about Prepdeck, the business that appeared on Shark Tank. If you don’t know what Shark Tank is, it’s a show on ABC where entrepreneurs pitch their businesses to a panel of investors, or “sharks”.

After appearing on the show, Prepdeck was able to generate a ton of buzz and interest in their product. In this blog post, we’ll talk about what happened after the show aired and how Prepdeck was able to capitalize on the exposure it received.

What Is Prepdeck?

The main product is the PrepDeck, a box that is antibacterial, and dishwasher-safe, and includes 15 storage containers and a bunch of kitchen tools like a cheese grater that fits right onto the containers [1]. The cutting board folds out and there’s a storage tray you can use to store knives and utensils that doubles as a waste container.

There are other accessories like a spice rack, utensils, measuring spoons, and cheat sheets – oven-safe, non-stick silicone dividers that allow you to put multiple foods on one oven baking pan.

What Is Prepdeck?

Prepdeck sells kitchen staples like the Prepdeck, a clever invention designed to store different groceries in five units, plus a spice section. Other products include the Shark Tank Upgrade Kit, a selection of containers, an adjustable measuring spoon, and a tablet or phone stand to help you closely follow the most complicated recipes. A nifty cutting board is also included.

High-end products include the Head Chef Bundle, which is comprised of a cutting board, a 360 measuring spoon, a chef caddy pro helping you keep seasonings perfectly organized, two Super Cubes, and many other accessories. Prepdeck also sells organic aprons, travel bags, slickly-designed utensils, produce keepers, and tote bags to cover other cooking-related needs.

Who Is The Founder Of Prepdeck?

Alexander Eburne is a serial entrepreneur who is originally from Sydney, Australia. Not much is known about his educational background, but he came to Los Angeles, California over a decade ago. He started his entrepreneurial journey in 2000 founding a company called Zealous Works [2].

He quit the business after 5 years to become a consultant at TGBN Mergers & Acquisitions.

Then, he was hired as a business development manager at Axis Telecommunications. This was his last job in Australia, as he left in 2007 to become the VP of Sales and Marketing at EcoSmart Fire.

In 2009, he served as CEO of Harbor Outdoor, an Australian outdoor furniture manufacturer. He left in 2011 to return to EcoSmart Fire and took up his second CEO role.

When Alexander got married to his partner Christine, he frequently used the kitchen and left it disheveled on numerous occasions. His wife always cleaned up after him, but everything changed when she got pregnant.

Christine didn’t want to spend time cleaning the kitchen, so it was up to her husband to take care of the mess. Alexander realized that there was no tool that could help someone like him cook in a more organized way.

This sparked an idea and by early 2018, Prepdeck was born. Prepdeck is an organizing kit complete with ingredient containers, measuring tools, and other cooking utensils. He launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo with hopes of raising $ 25,00 but ended up raising nearly $ 360,000. Within two years, he hit $ 7.2 million in sales.

Who Is The Founder Of Prepdeck?

Prepdeck Before Shark Tank

In 2021, Alexander Eburne was projecting $ 10 million in revenue. Still, he needed money for three things: more inventory, product development, and hiring more staff.  This is when he decided to apply for Shark Tank, hoping that one of his favorite sharks would invest in his company.

Alexander was initially hesitant about appearing on the show because he thought that the Sharks wouldn’t like or understand Prepdeck. However, after much deliberation and discussion with his family and business partners, he decided to go on anyway.

And it turns out that preparing for the sharks paid off – Alexander made a strong pitch and all five sharks were interested in investing in Prepdeck! He ended up choosing Barbara Corcoran as his investor because of her marketing experience and business acumen. With Barbara by his side, we can expect great things from Prepdeck!

Prepdeck On Shark Tank: The Pitch

When they asked how he planned to use the money, Alexander gave a neat, business-savvy answer that the sharks loved. However, Barbara Corcoran was the first to go out regardless. She didn’t like the plastic design or containers. Kevin O’Leary, on the other hand, offered a $ 750,000 loan with 9.5% interest over 36 months for a 5% equity stake. He promised to brand the company with a Chef Wonderful endorsement.

To clear the deck, guest shark Daniel Lubetzky bowed out. Mark Cuban followed. Both said they just didn’t understand the market well enough. Lori Greiner left the deal as well. She couldn’t get excited about the low equity, especially considering the high asking cost.

This left Kevin and his offer. Alexander countered for 9% interest and interest-only payments. He also tried to decrease the equity ask to 3%. Kevin wasn’t interested in taking it. They haggled a bit but ultimately couldn’t reach an agreement. Prepdeck walked away without a deal. Where are they now? Find out in our Prepdeck update.

Since appearing on Shark Tank, Prepdeck has released a few more products. The company now offers a soup cube device, cooking utensils, and non-stick cooking sheet organizers. While our Prepdeck update didn’t reveal any new numbers, we’re sure this company is going places!

Prepdeck was already on the right path before Shark Tank so it’s no surprise the business is still thriving. They have since introduced new products such as container sets, and prepping tools and designed a mini version of the Prepdeck.

You can buy the product on Amazon and through their official website, Prepdeck.com. The strategy of bundling the products together is helping maximize revenue. The innovative kitchen brand has expanded into Canada and will eventually launch in Europe and Australia.

The new Prepdeck Gen 2 design has an average star rating of 4.8 from 978 reviews on their website. The company has done $ 16 million in lifetime sales and has grown over 100% over the last 36 months [3]

They are looking to raise more money on WeFunder at a $ 17 million valuation. The founder is projecting the business will reach $ 30 million in revenue by 2025.
